A study in US schools found that in years when a school is contracted with a healthy lunch company, students at school get better results in academic exams at the end of the year. Healthy students do better than unhealthy students. Research shows that there is a strong relationship between health behaviors, academic achievement and even the daily attendance at school. The school provides a safe and supportive environment for the student. The school environment may also affect eating behaviors for students of all ages and offer them opportunities to eat a range of foods and drinks throughout the school day. A lot of research has been done on preventing obesity in school and promoting healthy eating and physical activity. Study: The prevalence of obesity tripled among school-age people. Over the past three decades, the spread of obesity has tripled among school-age people. Empty calories from added sugars and solid fats contribute to 40% of the daily calories of children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 18, which affects the overall quality of their diet. Schools are responsible for preventing obesity and promoting physical activity and healthy eating. It is the responsibility of schools to help prevent obesity, promote physical activity and healthy eating through school policies and practices, especially in our Arab societies where obesity has increased drastically in recent years, particularly among younger people. The school should be a supportive environment in the framework of school feeding services, physical education programs, health education, mental health, social services, family and community participation, and professional development of educational staff. All of these frameworks play a role in the student’s nutritional behavior and affect his overall health and his academic achievement. Malnutrition and physical inactivity lead to the risk of some chronic health problems for children and adolescents. Malnutrition and physical inactivity among younger people can increase the risk of some chronic health conditions, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Health and physical behavior of children and adolescents are affected by many divisions of society, including family, school, community, health care providers, media, and food and beverage industries. Each of these divisions has an important and independent role to play in improving the dietary and physical activity of school-aged children. There is a strong correlation between the household’s food supply and the general mental and physical health of children. In addition, the home environment and the influence of parents are strongly associated with eating behaviors of children and adolescents. There is a strong correlation between the availability of food at home and the general mental and physical health of children. The parents’ healthy lifestyle at home, family meal style, and healthy eating rules affect the type and amount of healthy food consumed by the children. Sensory taste in children and adolescents is the strongest indicator when choosing food. It is not easy to provide healthy eating to children as they wish. Children’s’ taste is the strongest indicator of how they choose food. It is, therefore. necessary to provide healthy food while taking into account the taste of the child or adolescent. And to present the food in a distinctive and attractive way. Recommended foods and drinks for parents and schools.
