Health Insurance Like Freedom: Susan’s #GetCovered Story

Susan: I think travel is the best education
there is. So I started my travel blog three years ago
with the goals of helping people learn how to travel and to become more adventurous. The world has changed a lot today and young
people aren’t staying at one job for their whole lives. They’re changing jobs a lot. And I think the Marketplace is great for that. Before the Marketplace came around, I was
uninsured for a few years. In December, 2013, I signed up. My coverage
began in January, 2014. I pay $40 a month for my health insurance.
And I think that that is a really affordable thing. That’s one night out at the bar, or a few
coffees. I think a lot of people in their twenties
think they’re invincible. I’m very frustrated when I talk to some of
my friends who are my age and who don’t have health insurance still. Honestly, I don’t know why you would want
to pay a penalty to be uninsured. It’s so easy to go to the Marketplace and sign up. To me, health insurance is like having freedom.
It means that I can work the jobs I want to work. It means that I can start my own business.
I don’t have to feel tied to some job that I don’t love just because of the benefits.
