My name is Andrew Sabine, I am a sophomore and how does health insurance work? Having health insurance is really important. It gives you access to health care and protects you against a large financial loss in case something awful happens. It works by you or your parents taking out a health care plan, and then following the guidelines of that plan. Each month a premium is paid. That premium allow you access to preventative servies like your annual checkup. And also, gives you access to health care in case an accident happens… say you slip and fall, or you are in a car accident. or you need physical therapy because you injured yourself… in a sports incident. By having access to care through a health insurance plan, you are actually paying less than if you just walked in and had to pay without insurance. So by having insurance, it helps reduce the overall costs for you as a consumer to access care.
