HOOS Guide to Enrolling in the UVA Health Insurance Plan


Hello, and welcome to the University of Virginia’s Hard Waiver Health Insurance Program. At first, especially for newly enrolled students, submitting a health insurance enrollment application might seem overwhelming. But no need to worry, because we’ve been there, too. That’s why we’ll help you through the process of submitting an application to enroll in the UVA Aetna Student Health Insurance plan. All hard waiver health insurance enrollments are completed online at www.uvastudentinsurance.com. Now that you’re on the www.uvastudentinsurance.com website let’s begin. Feel free to keep this video open while securing your account. To begin the health insurance enrollment process, select the “Enroll/Waive” box on right-hand side. Step 1: Under “Student Information” is a drop box with two answers… Please select either “Domestic” or “International Student.” If you have any questions regarding your status as an international student, please contact the International Studies Office at: (434)982-3010. Now, proceed to the “Secure Login” and enter your nine-digit UVA Student ID Number. This number is different than the seven-digit SISID number. The nine-digit UVA Student ID number can be found on the back of your ID card. If you do not have your card, simply click the blue link entitled “Get Your ID Number.” Now, enter your Date of Birth and select “Get Started.” Step 2: Under the Medical Plan enrollment option, please choose the “Select Plan” button to begin the enrollment process. After you’ve chosen the enrollment option, select the “Continue” box on the right. Step 3: “Student Information” page. Please review the pre-filled sections for accuracy. If the information is not accurate, please update your information in the SIS system. Select “Continue” on the right hand side of the webpage. Step 4: On the “Plan Details” page, checkmark the Student Box and select “Annual” in the drop-down menu. Now, read the “terms and conditions section” and place a check in the box. Select “Continue” on the right hand side of the webpage. You’re almost finished! Now, review the summary of your enrollment. The payment for the health insurance is added to your SIS account in late September. If you add a dependent or enroll in the dental you will pay for this coverage at the end of the enrollment process. Select “Submit” on the right hand side of the webpage. Step 6: “Enrollment Confirmation”. The enrollment process takes 3-5 business days to complete. After five business days you may print an ID card at www.uvastudentinsurance.com. Note: An insurance card will not be mailed. All insurance cards will be printed from www.uvastudentinsurance.com.
